Hell Without You

Hell Without You
3 of 5 stars false
Time changes everything, except what’s meant to be.
Seven years is a long time – long enough to transform Clementine from a small-town teenager with a broken heart into a woman ready to take on the world, but not long enough to make her forget about the man she was never supposed to see again. A temporary return to tiny Willow Heights thrusts her back into Donovan’s life and home, unearthing heartbreak and obsession that have stood the test of time.
He left seven years ago too, for war and other things Clementine can only imagine. Coming back to the town where he grew up in the shadow of poverty and drug addiction makes no sense, and neither do Clementine’s feelings for him. He could never forgive her for leaving, could he? Even if she had no choice.
Now, she has the freedom to choose … and so does he. Every day in Willow Heights makes it clearer: all he ever really wanted was her, and nothing will change that. Not even a taste of the hell that drove them apart in the first place.

Review

****Ranae Rose via NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review***
Dominic and Clementine were soul mates. They had a plan to get out of the one horse town of Willow Heights and start a bright future together, away from the pain of their childhoods. Until one night everything changes. Feeling like she had no other options, Clementine runs from Willow Heights leaving Dominic behind with a broken heart. 7 years and a freshly educated lawyer, a chance encounter back in her home town leaves Clementine feeling like she's gone back in time. Although this Dominic is different than the one she left all those years ago. A local business owner and x-marine, he carries scars that haunt him. The time apart proves no obstacle for their feelings though, and they find themselves trying to find out how their new futures match up with the destiny that has eluded them.
The story was a fun read but leaned more on the mild side for me. I found myself skimming at times and the story dragging. I can't fully fault the structure of the book, it just didn't connect with me as a reader and felt a little too calm for the turmoil that was supposed to be portrayed The world building was thorough and timeline and actions true to character. Clementine and Dominic had their flaws but felt realistic and complimented each other. Again, not a bad book just didn't stand out for me.
